Residency

We are looking for a resident to creatively explore the health and material elements of Public Green Space using the Spode Rose Garden as their base. Themes include:

• Public Green Space – What’s it for? Who’s it for? What is its history and development? How do we/should we use public space? How do we / should we access public space? Who can access public space and what are the barriers to that?
• The role of the garden in mental and physical well-being.
• The role of plants in a healthy garden
• The sensory and the experiential
• The garden as apothecary

Specifics
The residency will take place over 8 months in 2021 and we will expect 16 working days – 2 days per month – to be split between the Spode rose garden and studio/desk space at AirSpace Gallery, culminating in the production of a culminative residency artwork to be installed in the Garden in March 2022. Throughout the course of the residency, there will be 4 Public Events to be held in the Rose Garden (additional to the residency days), devised and delivered by the resident in collaboration with the Friends of the Spode Rose Garden.

Fee
The Spode Rose Garden: A Healthy Garden Residency comes with an artist’s fee of £3200 with an additional materials budget of up to £1600. In addition there is an artist fee of £200 X 4 for the production and delivery of 4 public facing workshop days.
