mac birmingham is pleased to announce the call-out for its inaugural annual Geoff Sims Photography Bursary.
Geoff was Director of mac from 1989-98, Project Co-ordinator of the mac/sampad building project (2006 – 2010) and honorary archivist (1989 – 2014). He was also an accomplished photographer. Geoff was always supportive of emerging artists and could see how an investment at the right time gave the most enormous boost to confidence and ambition.
The purpose of the fund, donated by friends, colleagues and family in memory of Geoff, is to support regional photographers preparing work for exhibition or project delivery at mac, and to properly reflect Geoff’s interests and his commitment to artists, especially those at the beginning of promising careers, in bringing their work to audiences.
Four bursaries are available, each worth £250, to support emerging photographers with professional development or professional practice costs. The bursary can contribute towards training, artist’s fees, travel costs or other relevant opportunities.
To apply, please complete and return the attached application form, giving details of:
- your current photographic practice
- how you would use the funding to further your professional development
