About
An evening of artist talks from students at De Montfort University, held as part of the State of the Art 2020 Exhibition at the LCB Depot in Leicester. A chance to hear how the artists came to create their exhibited work and their perspective on the art world, and wider society.
Joshua Rees uses photography to capture the delicacy of the male human form. He will be discussing male vulnerability and the toxicity imposed on men by society. Joshua will also be posing the question where is the line drawn between art and porn?
Feminism, archaism and taboos will be the topic of Jessica Wilson’s talk. Her artwork ‘Stacked’ uses condoms to make breasts made to symbolise society based sexuality towards the female breast and to incorporate their intended purpose of nurturing.
Laura Holmes will be offering a light-hearted take on ‘Things they don’t tell you before doing an art degree’ reflecting on things she has learned at university so far.
Fragility is a feature of Emily Grimstead’s work and discussion. Her delicate etchings depict winged insects, a once 3 dimensional form, ‘pressed into a façade with borders that imprison the freedom of the butterfly’.
