Technical Manager School of Art

Under the newly formed Arts, Design and Media Technical Structure we are currently looking for a suitable candidate to lead and manage the workshop technicians, spaces and equipment within the School of Art. This post is a management role but the successful candidate should have a background in contemporary art and design. This will be a rewarding and challenging role where you will have the opportunity to help shape the future of the team through the School of Art and within the wider faculty.

The role will have overall line management of 7 staff, and several student monitors at the Margaret Street Campus and 1 staff member at BCUIC Bournville. Experience with staff management will be essential to the role, you will need to able handle staff and customer related issues in a timely manner as well as providing meaningful feedback to all relevant stakeholders. Experience of working within a defined budget to manage and plan the maintenance of the equipment would be beneficial.

The role will see you working operationally to help coordinate the spaces, assist with exhibitions and utilise the skills of the team to their full potential. As such at times this role may be hands on and physically demanding.

You will be responsible for ensuring the resources meet all current H&S legislation and be responsible for ensuring all documentation is stored correctly and up to date.

Qualified to degree level or with substantial industry experience in at least two of the below areas and a willingness to learn the remainder,

Wood & Metal fabrication.

Ceramics, Plaster and Glass.

CAD/CNC and 3D design.

Photography.

Video Production and Post Production.

Electrical Qualification.

COSHH Qualification.

IOSH Qualification.
