About

Revolt.Revive.Rekindle is an online exhibition, in collaboration with NN Contemporary Art, featuring 22 local artists’ work throughout the month of July.

The exhibition, Revolt.Revive.Rekindle, organised by The Collective Vision, a group of the NN Ambassadors, has been developed as a response to a recent government campaign suggesting people in creative sectors retrain in more mainstream careers such as I.T.

Revolt.Revive.Rekindle was born from resistance against the recent ‘Fatima the Ballerina’ campaign of Rethink.Reskill.Reboot. The controversial campaign received widespread backlash and was deemed as a total lack of disrespect for the arts.

The art industries have been some of the hardest hit from the pandemic and the government is now wanting to impose a 50% cut to the funding of arts subjects in schools. Art in all its forms has helped us get through the extraordinary year we’ve had and Revolt.Revive.Rekindle is set to celebrate and revere the industries in these incredibly difficult times. The exhibition showcases how important and thriving the local art industry in Northampton is.

The artist callout received an astonishing amount of submissions, however, only 22 pieces could be selected for the final exhibition. The Collective Vision were faced with an extremely tough task when it came to choosing which pieces to exhibit, the standard of work submitted was incredibly high. The selected works were seen to revolt against the government’s attitude towards creative careers, revive motivation and inspiration to create work or rekindled a past or newfound love for art. The response the project received from the public has highlighted the importance of supporting local creatives in artistic endeavours and the potential for future features of a similar ilk.

The exhibition, which due to the current pandemic is to be hosted online only throughout the duration of July, features a selection of many different media and skillsets from local artists. A diverse array of artworks is shown including textiles, painting, drawing, digital poetry and photography. The exhibition will also be reproduced in a series of postcards which will be available online for a small donation.

Participating artists: Andrada Paunescu,  Fleur Debruyne, Georgia Franklin, Iain Douglas, Mark Coverdale & Oscar Crawford, Ida- Anamaria Olteanu, James Tebbutt, Jessie Rae, Joanna Chi Kei Kou, Joe Westley, Josephine Sams, Juliet Babbs, Maksim Podorozkin, Marina- Madalina Dumitra, Mia Henderson, Miranda Smart, Rebecca Dainty, Rochelle Ikin, Rosie Haynes, Sarah Thorp, Scot Greenwell, Teresa Williams and Tony Kinnear.
