Between 1974 and 1977 Barbara Laws was living in the Meadows area of Nottingham just as the whole neighbourhood was being cleared for redevelopment. She watched as a world and its history disappeared before her eyes. The experience led her to enrol on a documentary photography course recently set up by Magnum photographer David Hurn in Wales. Returning to Nottingham she continued to document the life around her including these warm and sharply observed portraits of the characters she encountered.
