Visual Arts Technician – Exhibitions

Principal Purpose of Post:

  • Deliver the highest quality technical support for mac’s exhibition and gallery related learning programme.
  • Established safe working practices in the pursuance of duties and ensure that visiting artists, technicians and casual staff adhere to mac’s health & safety policy.
  • To operate, maintain and repair the equipment within the Department’s control, or recommend when outside assistance may be required.

Principal Objectives:

  • To produce a high quality environment for exhibiting mac’s programmed activities.
  • Provide technical support required by the exhibition programme including: installing and dismantling exhibitions, lighting, making crates, making plinths and preparing work for exhibition.
  • Carry out Health and Safety risk identification and assessments as required.
  • Keep up to date with technical advances and practices related to the job role.
  • On occasions providing technical assistance on behalf of mac to external agencies.

 

Key Responsibilties:

  • Conduct specified testing of engineering products and assets.
  • Operate powered tools and equipment for routine and predictable requirements.
  • Carry out the movement of loads.
  • Install lifting and suspension apparatus.
  • Operate Powered access machinery such as a scissor lift.
  • Erect and dismantle access and support scaffolding.
  • Position and remove specialised equipment for accessing (including powered access).
  • Build the environment for in-house exhibitions.
