Call out to all Creatives

Summer and fall 2017 our town is welcoming all kind of creatives to help us bringing more color to our community.
We are looking for you; Street Art Creator, Architect, Landscape Designer, Experience Designer, Rural Developer or other creator with passion for engaging community.

Neskaupstaður is a small fishing village located in Austurland; the easternmost region of Iceland. We are known for our bottom up creative culture with a lively homemade music scene. Our statement as a community is to be curious and open with a creative mind.

Art Attack is a local movement aiming at bringing sociable creatives to come here and be part of our community. You will help us to build a more vibrant community that puts Neskaupstadur on the map as a good and interesting place to live at and to visit.

We want you to contribute and facilitate workshops, installations or other creative initiatives where we work with and for the locals. You should also be willing to share your skills and inspire the community during lectures, happenings and events which will be co-created throughout the project. You will lead and take action of making things with the community, by the community, for community

While staying here you will get an authentic experience of living at a rural place in Iceland, emerged in nature and among the locals.

During the residency, you will live in Þórsmörk – “the house of hundred rooms”. Each participant has a private room, shared kitchen, bathroom and living facilities. You will also have a free pass to the local swimming pool which is the heart of the community.

Depending on the needs of your project, we will provide access to different kind of workspaces.

In total we have nine spaces. Each stay is one month.
The periods available are:
1st – 31th of July
15th of July – 15th of August
1st – 30th of August
15th of August – 15th of September
1st – 30st of September
15th of September – 15th of October

Each approved participant will have free housing for a month and will also receive a grant of 250.000 ISK to cover travel and living expenses. Furthermore, during the stay each participant can apply for up to 75.000 ISK to cover project material costs.

Application deadline is to midnight 5th of June 2017.
To apply send us an e-mail including a personal letter to let us know who you are and what you would like to do during your stay. A portfolio or links where we can see your previous works will strengthen your application. When you apply, please give us information on what kind of workspace you will be needing. State clearly which periods you are available to stay.

Art Attack will be celebrated in the end of September with a local Street Art Festival showcasing the work from the previous month, and giving the locals the opportunity to be active and make art themselves. So if you have a special passion to create with the local community, we encourage you to apply for a stay in September.
