About
Leicester Museum and Art Gallery on New Walk holds a magnificent range of art, including paintings from the early Renaissance to the present day and outstanding collections such as the Picasso ceramics and internationally important German Expressionist works.
This course explores these local and accessible treasures and practices looking together. The introductory and concluding sessions at the Attenborough Arts Centre review the collections and their history, in the context of the National Gallery bicentenary which will see Renoir’s Umbrellas ‘on loan’ from London. The three central sessions of this five week course on 12, 19 and 26 June 2024 will be taught in the galleries of Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, engaging directly with the works of art. Participants will meet in the cafe area of the museum just before 1pm for these three sessions, not at Attenborough Arts Centre.
This is a seminar-style course which combines information sharing, group discussion and debate and the close study of individual works and related historical sources and academic writings.
Further Information:
The course will run on Wednesday afternoons, 1-3pm, for five weeks, starting on Wednesday 5 June and ending on 3 July 2024.
Participants must be aged 18+.
