Beforetime is the culmination of artworks created over the past year from three postgraduate artists at the University of Northampton, established through a residency at the NN Contemporary Art as part of the Professional Development Residency Awards. The residency showcases a shared dialogue of themes relating to fragmentation, time, and memory; and seeks to highlight the importance of the arts community and collaboration. The media used by all three artists are reminiscent of surface, especially its interaction with images and its subsequent alteration or marring. There is a mix of print, paint, and photographic practices which speak to ideas of a connection between what we conceive to be ‘real’ and what is constructed.
