About

Hardly anybody knows anything about Veronica Forrest-Thomson. The people who do know something about Veronica Forrest-Thomson claim that she is a poet and theorist of Cambridge, and that she died in 1974, at the age of 27. Neither of these things is true apart from the bit about her being a poet and theorist. In fact, she is a poet and theorist of many places including Leicester, and she is also not dead. Her work with poetry, language, and poetic language, particularly in her book Poetic Artifice, is increasingly becoming a point of reference for poets and theorists. This talk will be a selective introduction to that work. Fern Broome Richards is a poet and independent researcher from Derbyshire, currently based in Leeds.

This talk is the second in a series accompanying Two Queens’ 2019-20 exhibition programme with a focus on language and critical poetics. The event is made possible by public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England and De Montfort University.

The event is free to attend, the talk will take place between 6-7pm.
