Surface Gallery is excited to announce our annual volunteer exhibition, Re:Surface.

Re:Surface features work from over thirteen artists who utilise a variety of media: glasswork, coloured yarn, acrylic and oil paints, photography, paper and the written word. There will be a range of work on display, from Pete Abrahart’s doubly framed acrylic portraits to Phoebe Joy’s intricate glass works inspired by microscopic deep sea creatures. The raw, untouched portrait photography of Sam Lindley contrasts strikingly with a live body paint session by Caroline Barry. Sat beside a knitted totem will be a series of images exploring the darkness of 1961 to the lightness of 1989 in Berlin. The diversity of the work is itself the beauty that reflects the range of talents here at Surface Gallery.

Surface Gallery is entirely volunteer run. Everything from paying the rent, installing art works to running residencies and applying for funding is down to a team of dedicated volunteers. Surface Gallery empowers not only emerging artists but also early-career professionals who are passionate about working within the arts, but who are often out of sight. Re: Surface is an opportunity for the volunteers of Surface Gallery to shine by exhibiting their own art works and skilled creations.

What will you find among the hidden treasures buried beneath the surface?

Re:Surface will open in the Main Gallery on Friday 2nd December, 6-9pm. As always there will be a donations bar with ales from local brewery, Springhead.
