About

An open mic spoken word night featuring the best student talent alongside Jemima Foxtrot and True Colours.

Join us for a relaxed and friendly evening of performance poetry showcasing the best spoken word talent on campus. As well as the open mic slots, Speech Bubble will feature two professional poets: Jemima Foxtrot and True Colours.

Jemima Foxtrot is a writer, performer and theatre maker. She has produced several critically acclaimed works for stage and will publish her second collection of poetry ‘A New Game’ in 2022.

True Colours released his first collection of poetry, ‘Outspoken’, earlier this year. He is known for his authentic take on society and describes his poems as raw and realistic.

This event is being organised by our Speech Bubble Co-ordinator for 2021/22, third year Drama with Business student Yash Chawla. Yash has been doing performance poetry for three years. He will be your host for the night as well as performing himself.

This event is open to everyone (18+) – students, staff and members of the public.

Open mic opportunity

Any Loughborough University student or staff member can perform at this event but please book a slot in advance as places are limited. All abilities are welcome so it doesn’t matter if you’ve never performed your work before. We welcome performers from all backgrounds and you can expect a friendly and supportive audience on the night. Please email Yash at y.m.chawla-18@student.lboro.ac.uk to register your interest.

Accessibility

There is step-free access into the venue and gender neutral, accessible toilets are available in the Students’ Union. If you have any specific access needs then please let us know in advance via the booking form or email us at luarts@lboro.ac.uk.

Covid-19 measures

Please wear a facemask, unless you are exempt for medical reasons, and observe any social distancing measures in place in the Student’s Union on the night. In order to avoid crowding we have reduced the capacity for this event.

Photography

Photography and/or filming may be taking place at this event. If you do not consent to your photo being taken/being filmed and used for publicity purposes, then please alert the photographer/videographer on the day.
