Join us for the opening of ‘Sun Goddess Crouching’, a solo show by Colette Griffin held in a brand new pop-up art space in Loughborough, hosted by Modern Painters, New Decorators at Carillon Court.

The event is free to enter, and open to all ages. Alongside the opening of the exhibition we will also have prints, zines and t-shirts for sale in our shop. Hot drinks and pastries will also be available. The exhibition will run for two weeks, ending on Saturday 26 August. Children are welcome to join in with our family activity guide, aimed at 5yrs+, materials included.

//About Colette//
Colette’s artworks create a dynamic connection between material and shape. Through sculpture, video and print Colette develops ways of making artworks that blur processes and objects found in her day-to-day activities, domestic life and artist studio. Combining repetitive or improvised actions with sometimes-unreliable materials Colette’s work explores the daily rituals we assume and the interactions we have with the objects around us, making them seem at once strange and familiar. ‘Sun Goddess Crouching’ will showcase a series of Colette’s existing work, reimagined and reconfigured for the Modern Painters, New Decorators exhibition space.
Two videos, ‘Exsertus’ and ‘Little Turnip’ focus on the artist as the subject matter and blur the lines between shapes from Colette’s studio space and those she encounters as part of her daily routines. For example, the feel of fresh pasta or the bulbous forms of the climbing wall. A series of monochrome installations – ‘Shape Combinations’ – made from ceramic, latex and steel components gather on the floor and lean against the walls.

Modern Painters, New Decorators is a new not-for-profit art organisation running projects and building community in Loughborough, East Midlands. We run a monthly programme of art related activities including exhibitions, talks, events, markets and workshops with the aim of bringing colour to Loughborough and supporting and developing opportunities for regional artists. We are currently funded through donations from the general public.
