We are looking to commission a professional artist to work with The Witham Central and Carlton Road Neighbourhood Action Group, local residents and young people to create a series of beautiful, inspiring, themed, cast metal finials. These will create an inspiring trail route from the outlying council estates to the door of St Botolph’s Parish Church, (The Stump) in the centre of the town. The commissioned artist will undertake “creative” consultation workshops to explore and identify themes that reflect what people think is special and unique about this area. These will be developed through practical arts workshops such as clay modelling, casting, and printmaking, to create a body of design material that will be the starting point for the commissioned artist.
Our primary target is people who live along the Haven Bank area, people that use the footpath, the Witham Central and Carlton Road Neighbourhood Action group members and other community groups. The commissioned artist will be expected to develop a programme using a range of techniques that as well as being fun and engaging, will allow participants to identify themes, the things they care about and how they feel about the space.
In addition the artist will work in schools as a way of involving young people, encouraging them to explore and understand the value of the environment as well as taking part in inspirational and exciting arts activity.
