Assistant Gallery Manager

The Sara Preisler Gallery is located within The Custard Factory, Birmingham’s revolutionary new arts and media quarter. It is within this space that Sara represents sells her own handmade jewllery collections as well as over seventy of the UK’s leading designer makers. Alongside collections ranging from contemporary jewellery, to ceramics, silverware, textiles, wire sculpture, glass and photography, Sara promotes and curates a range of bi-monthly exhibitions focusing on international contemporary makers looking toward the more intellectual aspects of contemporary design.

The role of Assistant Gallery Manager offers you a unique insight into the workings of a small independent gallery where as well you working to serve and sell to our customers, you will have the opportunity to work with unique collections learning how to acquire (sourcing & buying), catalogue -through our management systems, display and promote them.

You will also be shown how to use our online systems and manage our online shop as well as have the opportunity to create props and display while learning how to manage installations, deal with artists’ contracts deliveries and understand the workings of programming, marketing and evaluation of our busy schedule of exhibitions.

Applicants must demonstrate:

• Excellent Customer Service skills
• Excellent Sales ability
• Computer-literacy with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office, and Photoshop
• Some experience with photography
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Some knowledge of the contemporary design/craft arena

Job Type: Part-time with a view to moving to full time depending on the candidate and business development, possible Saturdays/Sunday work required.
