We are interested to hear from artists and creative practitioners with a strong connection to the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site area and who have project ideas that could animate the Birdswood Canal Boat during this year’s Discovery Days Festival.
The boat will be located at Cromford Canal Basin for a one off pop-up event on Friday 1st November. The aim of the project is to explore creative ways of using Birdswood and engage new audiences in the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.
Proposed artforms could include (but are not limited to): light, installation, performance, music, sound or work which is interactive or uses new technologies.
It is essential that:
- the content of the work responds to the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site
- proposals take the logistics of the site in consideration ie. The Birdswood boat moored next to the Gothic Warehouse
- the project is ‘pop-up’ and animates the space in an innovative way
- the project is appropriate for a range of audiences
This commission is funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England as part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site Great Place Scheme.
