Call for Artists – Coastival Commissions

‘Coastival:  The Unexpected – Look beyond the Obvious’

Create has been successful in receiving Arts Council funding to run 4 new commissions of a range of art forms therefore creating home grown specific work for Coastival and the region. The commissions will take place in 2016 with the final work being presented at Coastival 2017. We want these to push artistic boundaries and respond to the theme of ‘Coastival:  The Unexpected – Look beyond the Obvious’.

We’re particularly keen to see work with strong artistic content and visual presence / impact, which can engage with diverse audiences.   We’re looking for professional, practising artists / companies with an aptitude for working in community settings and a proactive, collaborative approach that will engage a wide range of participants.

We intend the commissions to be a creative opportunity for artists (of any art form) to create new work in a location (not pre-determined by Create) in Scarborough that will engage with people and be presented at Coastival 2017 to new and existing audiences.

Individual artists or companies (of any art form) are eligible to apply.

Commission outputs will be agreed in consultation with the successful artists / companies.

Each of the 4 successful artists / companies will receive a fee of £5,000 for the delivery of the commission and presentation of the work. This is an inclusive fee that should cover any commission costs, artistic costs, production costs, and personal travel costs.  We will support companies to apply for further funding from other sources if required.  Technical, administrative and marketing support will be provided.
