Chair of Trustees

Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange is a registered charity, a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England and a Strategic Client of Cornwall Council.

We operate two venues, in Newlyn and Penzance, West Cornwall, each with exhibition spaces, cafes and shops and increasingly we deliver programmes beyond these sites.

We commission and present national and international contemporary art, which connects with Cornwall and its communities and create platforms for artists’ experimentation and development.

Our work is underpinned by a belief in art and the art institution as vehicles for personal growth and catalysts for social change.

Our current Chair, Charles Hancock, is stepping down having overseen a period of huge expansion of the organisation, including the redevelopment of Newlyn Art Gallery and the acquisition, development and launch of our new gallery in Penzance, The Exchange.

We are looking for an exceptional applicant to provide leadership and direction to the gallery’s Board of Trustees and to work closely with the Gallery Director, ensuring the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation.

You will demonstrate a passion for the arts, have Board level experience and a strong knowledge of the principles, ethics and practices of successful organisations.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend the launch of our summer exhibition by Imran Qureshi on the evening of Thursday 30th June and meet staff and Trustees.

Interviews will take place in Penzance on Friday 1st July.
