Focal Point Gallery is a high profile contemporary visual arts organisation based in South Essex, located in The Forum in Southend-on-Sea. The Gallery was founded in 1990 and now boasts both a national and international acclaim. The Gallery promotes and commissions major solo exhibitions, group and thematic shows which reflect and respond to the unique context and heritage of Southend-on-Sea and the county of Essex.

The Gallery is looking to recruit an inspirational leader with vision, energy, experience and commitment to lead the organisation into its next phase of development.  You will need be a creative and strategic thinker, well networked and experienced at working with artists both nationally and internationally in order to research, curate, plan and deliver a programme of high profile exhibitions in contemporary visual arts.

Supported by a committed and highly motivated team, you will build on the success of recent years and develop a range of new and exciting programmes, exhibitions, offsite projects and educational outreach programmes. Demonstrating strong communication skills, with the ability to engage persuasively with the team, internal and external partners and stakeholders, you will champion inclusivity and diversity, sharing the Council’s and the Gallery’s core values.

Focal Point Gallery is part of Southend Borough Council’s Cultural team, and receives funding from Arts Council England as a National Portfolio Organisation.
