Director

Oriel Davies is one of Wales’ key visual arts venues and part of Arts Council of Wales new Arts Portfolio Wales.  The current Director, Amanda Farr, is leaving after 18 years, during which the Gallery underwent a major capital development, and gained its current position as one of Wales’ leading contemporary art galleries.  Working with artists from Wales and internationally, and delivering innovative and imaginative programmes, the Gallery has an excellent national reputation and a growing name internationally, which includes co-curation of the highly acclaimed Wales in Venice Cymru yn Fenis 2013 exhibition ‘The Starry Messenger’ by Bedwyr Williams.

Following the successful delivery of an ambitious Feasibility Study earlier this year, Oriel Davies is now entering the development phase of a major capital programme to extend the building and develop its potential for income generation and enhancing its artistic and community offer. A key role for the new Director will be to lead the organisation through to the successful completion of this project.

Oriel Davies is situated in Powys, the beautiful heart of Wales, in the centre of the historic town of Newtown.  It plays a key role in the cultural life of the town and the region, and in attracting visitors from all over Wales and beyond.

The successful applicant will have experience of managing a high quality arts venue, a demonstrable flair for fundraising and business development, and excellent budgetary, communication and people management skills. Experience of managing or involvement with a successful capital project is desirable. Vitally he/she will have a wide knowledge of and passion for the contemporary visual arts.

The ability to communicate effectively through the medium of Welsh is desirable, but not essential.
