Super Slow Way and the National Festival of Making are delighted to announce ‘The Art in Manufacturing’.
Eight commissions are available to artists who will each take up a residency with manufacturers in Blackburn and Lancashire, including food, textile, paper and plastic manufacturers.
The National Festival of Making
The Festival of Making will take place in Blackburn in May 2017. An opportunity to see, make and do for residents and visitors as the festival takes over the streets with an eclectic mix of making experiences for everyone.
The Art in Manufacturing
The ‘headline’ element of the festival programme, this project will illuminate manufacturing in Lancashire forming an Art Trail with associated making experiences in Blackburn Town Centre.

The commission total is inclusive of artists fees, travel and accommodation, costs associated with installation / decommission, but does not include materials which are provided by the manufacturer.
We welcome interest from artists working in any art form, in particular those whose practice may reflect the following:
- Interest in heritage
- Work in a participatory context
- Interest in Blackburn’s history as an industrial centre
- Interest in engaging with unique, often industrial processes, products, making methods
