Freelance Artists – Project Delivery & Mentoring Scheme

Birmingham 2017-2018 // Total  for commission: £4280 (includes planning, delivering, evaluating) // Location: Touchbase Pears (Selly Oak) & mac birmingham

Sense and mac wish to commission two freelance artists specialising in either visual arts, sculpture, textiles, photography or audio and technology to deliver an inclusive arts project as part of the Sensibility // sɛnsɪˈbɪlɪti program. The project will support and mentor artists to work more inclusively with participants who have sensory impairments and complex needs and will begin to question how their practice can be explored and exhibited through using the senses.

Commitment

The program will be delivered between Oct’17 and May’18.  Alongside the delivery of the workshops, artists will attend mentoring sessions to reflect on and develop their practice.  Artists must be able to commit to both delivery and mentoring to be applicable for the commission.

About the programme

Sensibility // sɛnsɪˈbɪlɪti is a sensory arts programme curated for & by people with multiple sensory impairments (deafblindess) & complex needs. Sensibility will question and begin to define how people with multiple sensory impairments can engage and co-produce as participants & audiences of high quality arts experiences.  The programme will challenge conventions of established art making methods and provide progressive, socially engaged, experimental art opportunities that nurture and inspire the creative potential of people with sensory impairments & complex needs and the wider artistic community.
