Since being established in 1979, we have been located at the University’s Highfield campus and are one of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisations. Soon we will relocate to our new purpose-built home in the city centre as part of Studio 144 in Southampton’s Cultural Quarter. Ahead of our relocation, we are looking to appoint a full time Gallery Technical Manager at this exciting moment of transformation.

The successful applicant will make an essential contribution to the successful realisation of the Gallery’s acclaimed programme of contemporary art exhibitions, events, education and outreach. Knowledge and experience of fine art transportation, audio-visual equipment, carpentry, power tools, heavy lifting and current Health & Safety standards are vital, as well as organisational and administrative skills.

John Hansard Gallery plays a dynamic role in the cultural life of Southampton and the region. Our relocation to Studio 144 will triple our exhibition spaces and active learning opportunities, enabling greater impact in terms of artists’ production and reaching new and diverse audiences locally, nationally and internationally. The successful applicants to these new posts will make an essential contribution to the successful realisation of our acclaimed programme of contemporary art exhibitions, events, education and outreach activity.

We welcome applications from people of different backgrounds, experience and circumstances.
