Nonterritorial invites artists to submit their ideas and projects on an on-going basis. Artists may submit ideas and exhibition projects for individual or group exhibitions. Artists may benefit from multiple showings of their work and are offered the opportunity to experiment in a variety of unconventional spaces and contexts.
Nonterritorial engages in a conversation between today’s artists and spectators. It’s a gateway that connects artists from a variety of geographies to international space, a bridge linking the different art scenes themselves. It can be understood as an experimental laboratory for artists who forge new principles of art installation and art-viewing, whose works resist convention and are rich with poignancy, intelligence and risk.
Nonterritorial creates new contextual places for artists and spectators, providing both virtual and real-time opportunities for interaction and creation. Nonterritorial was founded in 2014. It is a concept that offers a unique way of conceiving of and developing the exhibitions of contemporary art. Using the metaphor of international airspace as a platform, the artist-run project from Rome and London is designed to facilitate the global collaboration of artists with each other and with curators, collectors and spectators, to bring an Idea — a work of art, object, installation, performance or other form of creative expression — to an unconventional exhibition space, or multiple spaces at the same time. Ideas germinate and are fostered in an Airspace, a public intermediate space between two (or more) places or people (territories). Nonterritorial is therefore a connecting space, an interface. Ideas may land at an Airport, an actual aerodrome equipped for flights as well as for special Nonterritorial exhibitions.
Nonterritorial is currently developing “landing/departure paths for ideas” in a series of international and domestic Airports, which will be dedicated zones for installations. Ideas may also land at Freeports – venues as alternative or private exhibition spaces. You can submit your ideas via email.
