PlayCodeShare Artist Practitioners

PlayCodeShare is a programme which seeks to develop conceptual understanding in computing for year 10 students using an ‘unplugged’ artist-led approach.  As conceptual thinking in the classroom and beyond is developed, participants will be able to apply that knowledge to ‘live briefs’. Teachers will see the benefit of these varied approaches, and this will in turn lead to a researched and tested teaching framework to support the OCR GCSE syllabus as well as a series of digital artworks that celebrate and share this thinking.

We are seeking artists to plan, deliver and evaluate this exciting new scheme of work from Easter 2019. Each ‘analogue’ artist will work alongside Warwick Arts Centre, Univeristy of Warwick’s Computer Science Department and Digital Artist Ashley James Brown. Each concept will be delivered in 4 sessions across a half term in 4 schools from September 2019. 3 of the concepts will also be taught from Easter 2019.

We are looking for the following artists to support the teaching of the following concepts

Visual Artist  – Abstraction (breaking things down into their simplest form)

Stage Manager – Decomposition (Breaking a problem down into workable steps)

Writer – ideally of non linear narratives – Flow Diagrams/Pseudocode (Way to plot paths through your code/Describing the pathway (understanding the logic before language) – stepping stone from flowchart to full code)

Movement Practitioner – Sequencing, Selection and Iteration (Techniques to make purposeful decision making within code)

All artists selected will need to have demonstrable experience of working with young people and in collaboration with practitioners from other disciplines. We are not exclusively looking for people who have skills in digital but you will need an opennes to learn.

If you are interested please send a CV and Covering Letter outlining why you are interested in the role and what skills/experience you can bring to it to Carly Mee at the email address above. We will be arranging phone or face to face conversations with interested artists in the w/b 10 September.
