SO Festival exhibition opportunity

The Embassy Theatre Gallery, Skegness is seeking submissions from established, emerging and recently graduated artists to take part in an exhibition The Four Elements, which will be part of The SO Festival East Lincolnshire’s Annual Arts Festival now in its eighth year. We are inviting you to submit new or existing work related to the theme of
The Four Elements, Earth, Fire, Air and Water.
Selected artists will be invited to exhibit their work in Theatre’s Gallery Spaces and take part in portfolio review sessions with industry expert(s) as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the development of emerging talent within the region.
The ancient Greeks believed that there were four elements that everything was made up of: earth, water, air, and fire. This theory was suggested around 450 BC, and it was later supported and added to by Aristotle. The idea that these four elements – earth, water, air, and fire – made up all matter was the cornerstone of philosophy, science, and medicine for two thousand years. The elements were “pure” but could not be found in that state on earth. Every
visible thing was made up of some combination of earth, water, air, and fire.
We would like to see 2D work (new or old) that reflects contemporary interpretations of the visible through these elements

About the So Festival: East Lindsey District Council in partnership with Arts Council England, launched a summer festival in Skegness in 2009, called SO. The title ‘SO’ comes from the famous 1908 John Hassall poster which features the town’s Jolly Fisherman dancing along the beach with the slogan of ‘Skegness is SO Bracing’ at the bottom. Since 2009, and with significant investment from East Lindsey District Council, support from Arts
Council England and embracing the Cultural Olympiad, the festival has grown from 3 to 11 days and covers the whole district. SO Festival is now established as the regions leading outdoor cultural festival with audiences of all ages that want to see stunning performances. Further information at: http://www.sofestival.org/
