Collections Manager

Following the recruitment of our new Director of Collections, we now enter the final stage of our plans to strengthen our existing professional collections team, in order to deliver our exciting vision for Collections and Exhibitions at Chatsworth and Lismore Castle.

In this new role you will lead the Collections team of 12 highly regarded specialists, taking responsibility for the management, care, access, research and development of the internationally significant collection of fine and decorative arts, books, and archives based at Chatsworth, Bolton Abbey and Lismore Castle.

Reporting to the Director of Collections, you will also work closely with the Duke & Duchess of Devonshire, their Family and the Trustees to maximize the potential of the collection for public benefit; raising the profile of this valuable collection whilst ensuring its care. You will be supported in achieving this goal by colleagues including: the Head of Exhibitions, Head of Development and Devonshire Education Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced collections manager to uncover the untold history within these vast collections, helping bring rare and beautiful items to life in ways that will captivate today’s audience of adults children and scholars alike.

To achieve our vision you will be degree educated in a relevant field, already be in a senior curatorial role within a historic house or museum, managing large projects and/or leading curators and archivists in the care of a collection. You will have a track record of partnership working, overseeing collections projects and devising successful development strategies. Experience in managing a database and controlling budgets is essential in this role.

There is property available to rent on the Derbyshire Estate if required.
