Visual Arts Technician – Art & Design

The Technician is responsible to the Senior Visual Arts Technician for technical services relating to the practical participatory, residency, community and outreach based Art and Design activities and other related events.

 Principal objectives:

• To service the technical requirements for the learning & participation programme in all of mac‘s Art & Design spaces.
• To oversee the general practical running and maintenance of the Pottery, Textiles, Jewellery, Sculpture, Painting and Drawing Studios.
• To provide technical support to visual artists in residence and/or community artists or groups utilising mac’s studios or exhibition spaces.
• In conjunction with the creative producers, learning & participation team, artists and tutors, to facilitate mac Art and Design Students Exhibitions.
• The safe operation and maintenance of education technical equipment and spaces in the Department’s control.
• To operate, maintain and repair the equipment within the Department’s control, or recommend when outside assistance may be required.
• To service the technical requirements for exhibitions in all mac‘s formal and informal exhibition spaces.
• To follow established safe working practices in the pursuance of duties and ensure that macstaff, visiting artists and technicians adhere to mac’s health & safety policies.
• To practice the highest standards of customer service when dealing with public and other members of staff.Key Responsibilities

• In conjunction with the learning & participation team, maintaining and developing painting & drawing, pottery, textiles, jewellery and sculpture resources and programmes available to mac.
• Operating, maintaining and repairing the equipment within the Department’s control, or recommending when outside assistance may be required.
• Packing and firing of kilns.
• Safe storage and care of studio products.
• Ensuring routine cleaning and tidying of Studios, and encouraging good standards in these areas.
• Providing technical support to visual artists in residence, associate artists and tutors to support the learning & participation programme.In conjunction with learning & participation team, tutors, Senior Visual Arts Technician and the Head of Technical Resources, facilitating mac Art and Design Students Exhibitions.
• Ensuring a high standard of presentation and the effective operation of mac‘s exhibition programme.
