About

Join our associate artist David Blyth for a hands-on day of Taxidermy, natural materials and woodcraft learning.

During this workshop, you will combine basic preserving techniques and survival skills to make a unique set of handmade artworks. We will work collaboratively with a British migratory bird, the Woodcock (Scolopax Rusticola), to create our own tools for navigating the world around us.

The workshop will begin with an artist’s talk where participants will learn about the habits and traits of the Woodcock. We will discuss the challenges and failures of Taxidermy and the Natural History project itself; and consider what forms of human knowledge might be called upon to create meaningful representation beyond simple illustration.
