Call out for expressions of interest from artists, performers, musicians, circus / carnival artists. The Big Cheese Roll is a contemporary homage to the Nottingham Goose Fair Cheese Riots of 1766, when people rolled giant cheeses down the streets because they could not afford to buy food. This playful non-violent re-activation will centre around a live procession towards local food banks to give donations. At least one person will be dressed as a cheese. The Big Cheese Roll aims to both commemorate and re-activate the momentum of those uprisings by acknowledging current social echoes, and inviting a collaborative, unifying response.
We are particularly interested in working with people with special access needs / visible and invisible disabilities and want to create an inclusive, family-friendly event. We envisage those in wheelchairs and pushchairs leading the parade. Please contact us for further details of how to get involved, or to submit proposals for creative contributions to the event
