This August sees the return of Surface Gallery’s resident studio artists in their annual exhibition. Last year, our exhibition Above/Below saw collaborations between studio artists and volunteers; this year, Surface Dwellers will see the studio’s newest and oldest occupants working together. Studio spaces have changed hands and artists have moved on to pursue new projects, yet the spirit of collaboration remains.
The exhibition will celebrate the diverse work and breadth of talent of these accomplished artists. The pieces featured will include a variety of disciplines the studio artists are currently engaged in – painting, photography, printmaking, mixed media installation and sculptural tableau.
Our Surface Dwellers will build on the success of their previous exhibitions with a visual celebration of the creative process and an exploration of a wide range of artistic practices. As the Nottingham Post previously observed, “make a trip to Sneinton Market to Surface Gallery. As this show proves, there is plenty of creative juice zipping around”.
During the exhibition, there will be the opportunity to attend a workshop delivered by studio artist Paul Henegan. Paul is an experienced teacher, and has run several successful workshops at Surface Gallery. Paul often explores print in his own artistic practice, and intriguingly will be using “unlikely materials to compose”. So come along, enjoy the fun, and make some prints to take home.
Surface Dwellers opens in the Main Gallery from Friday 12th August. There will be a donations bar with ales from local brewery, Springhead.
