This is a unique opportunity to secure a globally recognised professional qualification from the School of Museum Studies (Distance Learning), University of Leicester whilst undertaking paid work and on the job training at the Attenborough Arts Centre. The successful applicant will be enrolled (full fees paid) on the School’s 18 month distance learning diploma following either the Museum Studies or Socially Engaged Practice pathway. In addition to the diploma, the successful applicant will have three days a week paid work as a curatorial trainee at the Attenborough Arts Centre working alongside the Visual Art Officer on the exhibition programme. This includes on the job training and mentoring for the first 2 months of the diploma.
The Attenborough Arts Centre is an expanding public arts venue close to the centre of Leicester that is managed by the University of Leicester. With over 100,000 visitors each year the centre is a lively and vibrant part of the culture of the city and region. It has a progressive programme of inclusive theatre, music, dance, spoken word and exhibitions. As a part of the Arts Council of England’s National Portfolio Organisations the centre receives regular grant aid. The paid position is sponsored by Arts Council England through the Attenborough Arts Centre National Portfolio funding.
