Bi-monthly Better Together sessions will take place online and offer an opportunity for change makers in the East Midlands to connect. We particularly encourage attendance from directors and programme leads and welcome participants to share with the group current challenges that their organisation is facing, helping establish a supportive space for shared learning and development. Sessions will last only 1-hour and proritise time for open discussion.

Each session will be framed by a different urgent topic that is relevant to both the region and wider sector. For Better Together #1: AREVA Report we’ll be joined by artist Dr Jack Ky Tan and CVAN London Director Jo Townshend, who will discuss the CVAN London x INIVA Report on Anti-Racism and Equity in the Visual Arts.

The AREVA report sets out a new approach to tackling racism and inequity in the visual arts sector, and makes recommendations for a long-term, anti-racist development scheme to be adopted by arts institutions.

Written by artist Dr Jack Ky Tan the report is the culmination of a knowledge exchange project initiated by CVAN London (Contemporary Visual Arts Network) in collaboration with iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts), exploring how arts organisations may establish and support anti-racist and equitable working practices. The project was started following increasing reports of racist incidents experienced by artists and cultural workers in the sector, and the desire expressed by CVAN’s members to create a meaningful, proactive response to bring about change.

We encourage you to spend some time with the report ahead of the session. Closed captions will be available during.
