Creative Practitioner / Artist (Wigston Library)

Project Vision and Aims

This cultural project intends to encourage wider use of the library by SEND audiences and offer access to cultural activity to those who currently don’t access it. It is aimed at both Key Stage 2 SEND and mainstream school pupils and will be delivered through ten multi-sensory sessions.

There are two main overall aims; the co-creation of multi-sensory resource(s) for the library which can be used in situ for the longer term, and ensuring a positive, culturally engaging experience for the participants.

You will need to:

  • Have experience of working and communicating with SEND and primary school-aged children, including an understanding of the developmental needs and abilities of children within these groups.
  • Be able to organise and lead art workshops with SEND and primary school-aged children, addressing how your sessions will cater for the range of the participants’ abilities, and how you will adapt the content and delivery accordingly.
  • Have an understanding of safeguarding awareness in relation to working with the selected audiences.
  • Have an understanding of the health and safety requirements of working with the above groups and how you will ensure the proposed activities and outcomes are safe and appropriate for them.
  • Outline artistic ideas for interactive and multi-sensory interpretation, suitable for the space available at Wigston Library.
  • Be available to deliver sessions at Wigston Library on Wednesday afternoons from Mid-September onwards.
  • Attend and contribute to working group meetings remotely or in person as necessary, and one-to-one feedback sessions with Culture Leicestershire.
  • Collaborate regularly with Culture Leicestershire.
  • Keep records of numbers at workshops and support evaluation processes.
  • Provide photographic documentation of the progress of the work and use organisational consent forms for filming, photographs and potential publishing.
  • Carry out risk assessments.
