The Arts Council Collection is the national loan collection of modern and contemporary British art; founded in 1946, the Collection is committed to reaching the broadest possible audience. The Arts Council Collection is the UK’s most widely seen collection of modern and contemporary art. It has no single home but is promoted and shown through strategic partnerships across sectors and at a range of venues. This activity is administrated by Southbank Centre from three bases in at the Hayward Gallery and a paintings store in London and at Longside, Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
We are looking for a Collection Assistant to join the team at Longside, Yorkshire Sculpture Park in providing a welcoming and efficient service to the public, artists, contractors, consultants and promoters at Longside. Supporting outreach, digital, education and evaluation activities, the Collection Assistant will also provide administrative assistance to support all aspects of the care, display and research of sculpture in the Arts Council Collection. They will also provide key administrative support to the National Partners Programme, a new scheme to support the artistic ambitions of a new constellation of partner galleries, launched to mark the 70th anniversary of the Arts Council Collection.
With excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, and high attention to detail; the ideal candidate will be a strong team player, with a demonstrable interest in modern and contemporary British art. You will be confident in your ability to work calmly in a pressurized environment, and have proficient IT skills, including experience with databases, Google Mail and Drive, MS Office and social media sites; experience of using Photoshop is desirable. Experience of liaising with artists, curators, contractors, press and the public; assisting with social media initiatives in a gallery or museum context; and condition checking works of art are also desirable.
