About

Opening: Friday 26th May, 6-7.30pm

The political tradition of the pamphlet goes back centuries. The radical, simple format and DIY approach of the pamphlet has been of long-standing significance for artists, providing alternative platforms for intervention and provocation.

Focusing on the pamphlet as a form of material culture, this exhibition curated by Gillian Whiteley will explore the local, private, and public collections of pamphlets, their visual rhetoric, materiality, and reproducibility, and the ways in which they lend themselves to topicality.

‘The Art of the Pamphlet’ will be on public display at the Charnwood Museum from 27 May until 24 June. The exhibition will be open daily, Monday to Saturday from 10:00am until 4.30pm.

Free entry. Public welcome.

For & Against is a collaboration between Radar, Loughborough University’s Dr Gillian Whiteley and Dr Jane Tormey, and RadicalAesthetics-RadicalArt (RaRa), bringing together research in to the radical traditions of the political pamphlet and contemporary art practice.

We are delighted to be working with artists and collectives Ruth Beale, Freee, Ferenc Gróf, Patrick Goddard, LIttle Riot Press, Ciara Phillips, and Rory Pilgrim.
