About

Come and explore our exhibitions with our friendly learning team and use resources in the Salmon Gallery to explore through a range of creative workshops. Each week brings something new inspired by our gallery exhibition ‘We Grown-Ups Can Also Be Afraid’ in Gallery 1 – perfect for families and children. Spaces are limited to give participant enough space and are pre-bookable only.
Workshops are free for all but we offer Pay What You Can tickets to help support the continuation of this work for our communities.
Itinerary of workshops:

Workshop 1: Gallery den building (9 August, 30 August, 20 September & 11 October)

We love creating safe gallery spaces for families to explore creatively, especially in challenging times. This fun session is inspired by Fransisca Anuit’s installation in the exhibition. Families are invited to come and build dens in the gallery, using found and recycled materials, building towers and playing with the properties of materials. We will create a village of sculptural dwellings to play in during these free summer sessions.

Workshop 2: Hotspots studio gallery (16 August, 6 September, 27 September & 18 October)

Inspired by Mona Hatoum’s Hotspots neon globe, join us for this fun and creative gallery session. The exhibition invites us to reflect on the world we live in today – to explore how being creative and making art about being in the world, can help us express ourselves and process what is happening around us. We will provide art materials for you to create your own artwork inspired by the exhibition, and invite you to display your work in a pop-up exhibition at the end of the session.

Workshop 3 : Climate changers (23 August, 13 September & 4 October)

We love the painted animation by Jacco Olivier entitled Saeftinghe, 2006, which tells the story of a town in the Netherlands that was reclaimed by the North sea in 1537. What does climate change look like right now? Using paint sticks and recycled materials, create a series of pictures that tell the story of our changing land and seascapes, from your point of view.
