About

London-based textile artist Kemi Ajose combines traditional Ghanaian and Nigerian patterns and craft techniques with contemporary knitwear design. Working on a hand-powered knitting machine, she transforms sketches, collages, and mood boards into distinctive garments and accessories.

Guided by a zero-waste practice, Kemi sources all materials from deadstock suppliers. Each piece begins as a small knitted sample, allowing her to refine colour, texture, and pattern before creating the final work.

A graduate of Central Saint Martins and resident at the award-winning Cockpit Studios, Kemi creates bespoke commissions, including skirts, headpieces, gloves, and ties, alongside experimental knitted artworks. Her practice celebrates her heritage while reimagining it for the present day.
