About
Tom Krasny is a Glasgow-based artist. Her practice explores the way conflict affects the psyche of individuals and communities, and how these effects are manifested in material culture.
Her project ‘Made In UK’ ( which originated during the artist’s time at The Glasgow School of Art ) asks to draw visitors’ attention to the fact that pieces of furniture designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for 78 Derngate in 1916-17, were built in a cabinet making workshop at Knockaloe internment camp, Isle of Man, by German civilian internees. The featured bronze sculpture will be installed at Knockaloe as a memorial for Knockaloe craftsmen.
This engaging contemporary work connects three significant ‘Mackintosh sites’ in the 150th anniversary year of the architect’s birth.
