Community Engagement Officer

Job Purpose:

To lead the co-ordination and implementation of the community engagement programme to develop, diversify and widen audiences across the Service

You Will:

Co-ordinate and develops a programme of museum-based and outreach projects, working with and involving a wide range of Leicester’s communities to increase participation in museum services, and assists community groups with the development of exhibitions and contributions to permanent galleries.

Organise activities, exhibitions and events which meet targets, identified within the service plan, for increasing access and participation

Manage, develop and appraise a community engagement team staff, including approximately 1 direct report

Contribute to and develops activity/projects that deliver on reaching diverse audiences

To develop and deliver a community engagement programme which inspires, develops and engages them to participate in heritage and museum activities

Enable people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to participate in heritage and museum activities

Requirements of the post:

• Interest in Arts & Museums and ability and understanding of how to use collections, objects and exhibitions with a range of community-based groups
• Experience of a minimum in community engagement work and developing audiences, preferably within a heritage/ cultural organisation
• Ability to develop exhibitions with varied community based groups, making them accessible through events and resources.
• Degree level ability, together with an appropriate qualification OR equivalent level of relevant experience.
• Experience of programming and managing events.
• Experience of raising the profile of a community service to increase access to and participation in, the service, particularly from identified target groups.

1 Full time, Fixed Term Post until March 2022 due to funding.

Salary: £27,358 – £29,909 per annum
