Lifelong Learning Programmer

Derby Museums offers a varied programme of lifelong learning activities across the three sites that make up the Trust – The Museum & Art Gallery, Pickford’s House and The Silk Mill. With an emphasis on co-producing and facilitating intergenerational learning experiences, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop and apply your creative learning experience and skills, to inspire and engage our audiences.

Derby Museums is looking for an energetic and proactive Lifelong Learning Programmer with a strong sense of the role culture and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) can play in the development of peoples’ skills, capacities and well-being.

Working within our passionate and committed Audiences and Communities team, you will be pivotal in developing and delivering lifelong learning programmes across Derby Museums’ three sites for a diverse range of audiences.

The role includes but is not limited to;

  • Devising and implementing the delivery of audience focused learning activities and programmes linked to our exhibitions and displays, and regional and national events/ celebrations.
  • Co-producing programmes and activities with a range of stakeholders, organisations, learning facilitators, community groups and volunteers, in line with Derby Museums’ strategic objectives.
  • Planning and managing the delivery of activities in collaboration with learning facilitators, ensuring their effective and high quality delivery.


We are looking for a proactive individual with great ideas and passion with the ability to engage and work effectively with a wide range of people. You will have a good understanding of STEM/ STEAM and cultural learning, with a strong belief in your ability to make a positive impact and proven experience of work within the cultural/ heritage sector.
