This August, Surface Gallery presents Juxta, a solo show by Bethan Lewis. The exhibition was awarded to Lewis as the Surface Gallery Prize for the Malt Cross Midlands Printmakers Open 2016.
Bethan Lewis is a creative designer with a desire for colour found in her natural surroundings. Using her skills as a photographer, Lewis captured inspirational moments from her recent travels, transforming them into fluid and illustrative design. Juxta is inspired by the polluted surfaces revealed in her photography, which captures something so beautiful to the eye yet so destructive to our environment. Bittersweet beauty found in the delicate illustrative fluorescent lines coincides with fluid flashes of bright colours. This has been created through hand printed techniques and small elements of digital print.
Juxta opens in the Project Space in conjunction with our annual studio artists show, Between the Spaces, in the Main Gallery. As always on the opening night, there will be a donations bar with ales from the local brewery, Springhead.
