About
‘Recovered Histories’ Project: The Cathedral Banner
The Very Reverend David Monteith Dean of Leicester, talks with the artist George Sfougaras. Exploring the inspiration for and creation of a multi-layered artwork to be suspended in the Cathedral. The work is part of the artist’s Art Council funded Recovered Histories Project. We will be discussing issues of identity, migration and reflection on belonging, which such works invoke.
The complex, overlapping layers create the rich hues of the image and are symbolic of the treasures and potential we all carry within us. Some of the images used can be seen in the film made in collaboration with filmmaker Kate Drucquer, which will be projected at various times in the Cathedral arches.
